Conehatta man pleads guilty to sexual abuse of minor

A Newton County man has entered a guilty plea to charges of sexually abusing a minor under the age of sixteen. The incident took place in February 2024 within the Conehatta Community on the Choctaw Indian Reservation.

Javeon Deshaun Jefferson, aged 25, admitted to the offense on June 17, 2025. The case was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon from the Southern District of Mississippi. Investigations were conducted by the Choctaw Police Department alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Jefferson is set to receive his sentence on October 28, 2025. He could face up to fifteen years in prison, with the final decision resting with a federal district judge who will take into account both U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin J. Payne and Brian K. Burns.
