A Jackson resident, Domique Desha Mathews, 30, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentencing follows an incident in which Ridgeland Police found Mathews with two firearms during a traffic stop. One of the weapons was a Glock pistol fitted with a machinegun conversion device, also known as a “switch,” which can turn a pistol into a functioning machinegun. This device is illegal under both federal and state law.

Mathews had previously been convicted of attempted house burglary, making it unlawful for him to possess firearms or ammunition under federal law. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 11, 2025, and later pleaded guilty to the charge on May 21, 2025.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Allen handled the prosecution.

Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon for the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson of the ATF announced the sentencing.

“This case is part of Operation Take Back America   (https://www.justice.gov/dag/media/1393746/dl?inline), a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”
