A Jackson man was sentenced on March 17 to more than 15 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Baxter Kruger of the Southern District of Mississippi and Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent in Charge Steven Hofer.
The sentencing follows law enforcement efforts to address narcotics distribution in Hinds County, Mississippi. Authorities identified Roman Walker, age 35, as a distributor who provided a menu of drugs, business hours, and prices. During a search of Walker’s residence on January 24, 2023, officers found more than 11,000 blue fentanyl pills along with fentanyl powder and methamphetamine packaged for sale in the Jackson area.
The case was investigated by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency with help from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Brett Grantham prosecuted the case.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, described as “a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.” The operation combines efforts from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
Authorities say these actions are intended to disrupt drug trafficking networks and reduce violent crime associated with narcotics distribution.
